Feeding the Alterna-rock phase

29 Mar

So lately I’ve been going through this alternative rock obsession, which comes and goes from time to time, usually leaving some impression on my permanent music preferences.  Through this current phase I discovered the band Passion Pit. I know, I’m a little slow…They are relatively well-known already. The music video above, “Sleepyhead,” is visually distinctive for a music video. It lacks any visual reference to a full physical body, and instead virtually beheads lead singer, Michael Angelakos, and places the disembodied head on a turning box. How magnificent!

This visual beautifully emphasizes the musical fragmentation featured in the song “Sleepyhead.” I must admit, when I first heard the song my first thought could best be described by utter confusion. I decided to give the song a second chance, and it definitely grew on me. I’m currently exploring more songs by this band, and I have to say, it is the best kind of music for a double English major to listen to while trying to finish up all the school assignments.  Also, as a fan of the Modernist movement of literature and all of its fragmentation, it is only natural that I would learn to love Passion Pit.
